Sir Tom Stoppard, OM, CBE, FRSL

12” x 10” (31 x 25cm) Oil on gessoed panel/£5000

A portrait study in oils based on a photograph by the London photographer, Sarah M Lee. I believe the photo was originally reproduced in black and white in the Guardian. That’s what made me paint it in colour. The photo was later reproduced in colour in the Observer. I may be misremembering these events. If someone from the newspapers would care to put me right I’d be grateful. What I clearly recall is the painting was rejected by Mall Galleries for exhibition in their Royal Society of Portrait Painters Exhibition, 2018. Expletive deleted.
