Dupuytrens
15.75" x 12" 40 x 31 cm)/Oil on gessoed panel/£2750 Dupuytrens contracture is a medical condition where one or more fingers crook back on themselves. In my case the condition was disabling because it meant I could no longer play the piano as I couldn’t reach an octave with my left hand. I have now had the operation and can once again play, much to the unalloyed joy of family and neighbours. The NHS have, I believe, recently withdrawn funding for the operation for Dupuytrens. A finger gesture suggests itself. Provenance: This work was submitted to and rejected by the Mall Galleries for their Royal Institute of Oil Painters Annual Exhibition 2018. ...Again they tore my tattered ensign down...
