The Ghost Tanker

40" x 30" (76 x 102cm) / Oil on gessoed panel / £7500
You know how it is. You see something out of the corner of your eye, something that catches your attention. You’re on a road you seldom travel. You think to yourself, I’ll stop and investigate next time I pass. But the next time you pass it's not there. Well, nothing stands still for long. Even so, whatever it was didn’t look very mobile. Time passes. Then, damn me, you drive by again and it’s back. This time you stop and make some sketches, take a few photos, then go on your way. As you drive away you wonder if the photographs will come out? Will the images be there? Ghosts aren’t very fashionable these days. You’ve heard stories told in this area of a ‘verie noble’ mansion house that burned down centuries ago, but no one has been able to find the site. Does the Ghost Tanker disappear to take water to the ancient blaze? Who knows?
Provenance: This painting was entered for the RA Summer Exhibition 2018 and for the Mall Galleries  Royal Institute of Oil Painters Annual Exhibition 2018. It didn't make the cut for either.

GUARANTEED TO LAST 1000 YEARS

I live by the rule, when you’re painting you’re not only making art, you’re making furniture. I use the finest light-fast oil, acrylic and watercolour paints, and work on hardboard. If you don’t damage, burn or submerge the paintings, they should last 1000 years. If they don’t, well, get back to me.
