Dupuytrens contracture is a medical condition where one or more fingers crook back on themselves. In my case the condition was disabling because it meant I could no longer play the piano as I couldn’t reach an octave with my left hand. I have recently had the operation and can once again reach an octave, much to the delight of family and neighbours. The NHS have, I believe, recently withdrawn funding for the operation for Dupuytrens. A finger gesture suggests itself.
This work was rejected by the Mall Galleries for their Royal Institute of Oil Painters Annual Exhibition 2018. Another 18 quid down the drain. And, come to think of it, yet another finger gesture suggests itself.
